Character Descriptions
Note about casting:
All characters can be any ethnicity or race, and we are open to considering other genders than some parts are written for.)
Ames (male)
Ames and Z are siblings. Ames is smart, but his dad ripped the red-carpeted path he had to college right out from under his feet.
Z (male or female)
Z just got back from juvie and wants to get Ames back on that path, but Ames isn’t sure whether he wants Z’s help. After all, Z was sent to juvie for murdering their father–a murder that remains as murky as the swamp water that surrounds them.
Junker G (male or female)
Z’s best friend and sidekick–up for helping Z with whatever. Junker G has a dad with a military dream, but all Junker G wants to do is play guitar and sing.
Delia (female)
Delia is new…..again……and just wants to stay in one place until her mom brings This Guy to that place. Now Delia’s mom is on the move again and Delia just wants to stay in The Glades with Gram.
Elijah (male)
And then there’s Elijah…Elijah who has a faith as big as the prophet he’s named for. But is the faith of his parents big enough for him, or will he have to take his own leap of faith toward acceptance and growth?
Sticks (male or female)
Slimy boatman to and from Mainland who’s helpful only when it’s convenient and beneficial to them.
This Guy (male)
Delia’s mom’s candy-selling, kid-hating boyfriend.
Mr. G (male)
Junker’s father who probably (Junker *thinks*) wants the best for his kid but also wants help supporting his drinking habit.
Reverend Brown (male)
Elijah’s father and the Island’s showman preacher always looking to grow the flock.
Mercy Johnson (female)
Ames and Z’s aunt who wants to help when she learns it will bring in more money.
Old Lady Simms (female)
Delia’s Gram who tells the future and provides some loving, stabilizing guidance.
Charity Simms (female)
Delia’s mother who loves her daughter almost as much as she loves her boyfriend-of-the-week.
Mama Brown (female)
Elijah’s mother and supporter of the Reverend.
